On 24th May 2014, at 09:25 UTC (12:25 local time), a powerful M6.9 earthquake hit Greece and Turkey, in Aegean Sea, 87 km W of Canakkale, injuring several tens of people but apparently some damage in Greece and Turkey. This earthquake has been largely felt in Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, and the Balkans.

Aftershocks locations
Within 48 hours after the main shock, 186 aftershocks have been recorded: 90 of magnitude M3 , 20 M4 and one M5 .
Their geographic distribution shows a clear NE-SW alignment (see below).
